The tunnels are also the site where the cult of Sodatha assembles for its unholy rites. Trollo and the Cimmerian emerge from a tunnel overlooking a vast pit around which the cultists congregate. They are apparently about to sacrifice a woman. Conan decides he can’t let the woman die. In the following pandemonium, a burning and angered Sodatha starts really shaking things up, causing the progressive collapse of the tunnel system. The beast bursts forth through the city’s floor, levelling the place in its agony. The woman emerges from her drug-induced stupor a fair distance from the city’s ruins, agreeing to go with Conan.
