Conan, First Centurion Vindictus. Daius, Rus Vanir, Witch-Queen of the Rus Vanir.
Conan has holed up in an Aquilonian fortress under siege by the Vanir. There is a shortage of everything except enemies. The new First Centurion Vindictus seeks advice from Conan. A servant poisoned the previous commander. Conan kills the witch- queen og the Vair. They attack the fortress at dawn. The fortress is set on fire and the garrison falls. Conan and the now blind Vindictus survive.
