Conan, Aman G'Hak, Quizaal, Pongru, King Gwal of Tranicos, Zol, Brotherhood of the Falcon.
Conan is employed as a bodyguard by the senile King Gwal of Tranicos. Meanwhile, the Brotherhood of the Falcon are striving to fulfill their goal of killing Conan and sends four lords to take advantage of the king's senility and recruit him to the brotherhood. Conan worked for him in the past and even slew the king's own brother, against whom he apparently waged war. There is a clear respect between the two men, although the king suffers bouts of senile dementia: praising Conan one moment, he accuses him of being a traitor the next. Gwal lures Conan into a deadly trap. Tracking the old king, the Cimmerian finds him next to a small pyramidal tomb. Gwal enters the tomb and Conan follows, finding a heavy stone door seals the tomb shut. Conan escapes and takes his gruesome revenge upon the Lords of the Falcon. Each of the Falconmen receives an invitation to return to Gwal's side to discuss a matter of life or death. The invitation is naturally fake, and each of the men is in turn captured by Conan and disposed of.
