Relaxing with the Palmers’, the Phantom accompanies Diana to a charity event where the boxing heavyweight champion Chesty Smith takes an instant liking to Diana and manipulates her into going out with him. More persistent advances result in several standoffs between the boxer and the Phantom, culminating in the enraged and humiliated title holder challenging the Phantom for a 'grudge' title match.
