Confounding the Predator's safeguards, this queen manages to slip an egg containing the seed of another queen into the shipment. On reaching Ryushi, the eggs hatch and infect Rhynths. The Predators run into the settlers and, after leader Broken Tusk is incapacitated, change their plans and go on a rampage. They attack outlying ranches and kill the defenseless settlers. The wounded Predator leader is taken back to base. The inhabitants of Prosperity Wells prepare their meager defense. Meanwhile, Machiko ventures out to investigate the transport ship The Lector- the only possible avenue of escape to the colonists. She discovers the reason the ship hasn’t made its run to the orbiting barge, the ship has been overrun by Aliens. She witnesses an encounter between Aliens and Predators.
