Conan, prince Allman, princess Sartessa, Hassan (leader of the Kobremi brotherhood), Hrulo.
The political situation of the eastern country of Iranistan changed in the recent past. The king drank poisoned wine, slain by conspirators. A groomsman spirited away the Khan’s young son and daughter and took them to a friendly mountain shah who gave them refuge while the country’s leadership passed to a council of mullahs. The power is shared by the council and by the criminal Kobremi brotherhood. Both would like to entice the royal children to return home so they could be done away with. A plot is set in motion. The young prince left in Conan's protection is brutally murdered. Conan tries to find out who ordered the foul deed, brutally interrogating many shady individuals. Concluding that Hassan must be the culprit, the Cimmerian invades the man’s palace. He chases down Hassan and his chief accomplices through the streets of the city, killing them one by one.
