Conan, Petrus, Prince Khumir.
Conan means to join the army of a certain princeling as a mercenary. The men he roughed up the night have set up a trap to get even with him. The booby trap works perfectly and not only is Conan's horse impaled, but a spike digs deep into his right thigh. A young peasant armed with a bow arrives to save him. He carries the unconscious Cimmerian to the house he shares with his younger sister and their old mother. The family nurse a grateful Conan back to health. He learns that the young man, Petrus, longs for adventure in exotic places. When Conan leaves, he is soon rejoined by Petrus. The Cimmerian starts training him and giving him practical advice. Petrus is then recruited: the rebel peasants are still active, and have taken the castle of a local king. A while later, not having seen Petrus again, Conan concludes that the young man returned to his mother. The Cimmerian finds a position in the army of the princeling. He and Petrus will then unwittingly be on opposite sides during the attack on the castle. The prince proves to be an ineffective and pretentious buffoon… |
