Conan, Yasmina, Bhunda Chand, Kerim Shah, Khemsa, Chunder Shan, Gitara, Yar Afzal, Ashida.
Sorcerers are killing Yasmina's brother, Bhunda Chand, the King of Vendhya. Devi Yasmina vows to get revenge on his killers, the Black Seers of Yimsha. Conan infiltrates the border fort and kidnaps the Devi. The problems are complicated by Kerim Shah, an agent of King Yezdigerd of Turan, who arranged Bunda Chand's death in order to lead an army through the mountains and invade in the subsequent confusion and turmoil. Gitara and Khemsa betray Kerim Shah and plan to use the information of the kidnapped Yasmina to their own ends. Conan and Yasmina reach the Zhaibar Pass and meet up with Yar Afzal. The chief of the Wazuli village, is killed by Khemsa and the people turn against Conan, yet he manages to escape again with Yasmina. When Yar Afzal is killed by Khemsa's sorcery, Conan and Yasmina must flee the Wazuli camp. Conan and Yasmina are attacked later by Khemsa and Gitara, but during the battle four wizards appear and take their revenge on Khemsa and take Yasmina from Conan. Khemsa survives a fall from the mountain-side long enough to give Conan a warning and a magic girdle.
