Superman [Clark Kent, Kal-El], Big Barda, Dr. Kincaid, Molly, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Fine, Sleez, Darkseid.
While patrolling one of Metropolis' roughest neighborhoods, Big Barda is ambushed by Sleez, a vile outcast from Apokolips who steals her Mega-Rod, a weapon capable of mind control. Sleez captures Barda and uses the device to enslave and humiliate her in his underground lair. Superman tracks the Mega-Rod's energy signature to the sewers, but when he arrives to rescue Barda, Sleez uses the weapon to place both heroes under his control, setting up the conclusion in the next issue.
