Hilly countryside of northern Turan. Conan fights in the Turanian army against the Hill-Men. The soldiers have withdrawn to higher ground. Conan remember from his youth when he was hunted by vanirmen and fell into a hole and found an ancient chamber. There he found a magic sword and fought his own shadow. The next day he fight in a duel to the death against the huge Hillman named Toruk.
