When he's attacked by Vanir on the way back to Cimmeria, Conan is taken in by a strange old man and told a story of Conan's grandfather, Connacht and how he came to take two orphaned brothers into his care. Like his grandson, Connacht had a penchant for finding trouble, as he rescues two children slated for sacrifice by some cultists. The children harbor some secrets of their own, and may not be as innocent as they seem.
