A major turning point in the kingly career of the Cimmerian. Gunderland, province of Aquilonia. Conn and soldiers on a mission to recruit young soldiers. They are attacked by wild men painted in black. "The Prince Is Dead..." and the news of his son's death drives Conan to abdicate the throne of Aquilonia. In flashbacks the never-before revealed story of how Conan became King Conan in the first place and also how Zenobia became his queen. Conan and his men ride to Gunderland to recover the prince’s body and search for his killers. In a forest in the Border Kingdoms a weary Conn is trying to escape a pack og wolves.
