A young gorilla is saved from certain death by the Phantom and nursed for weeks until a strong bond is created between the two. But when other duties call, the Phantom must leave the primate in the care of the Wambesi tribe. During a fire in the village, a terror-struck Buster escapes into the jungle where his growing hatred for both man and animal turns him into the jungle's greatest menace. Believing Buster dead, the Phantom is alerted about a mad gorilla with a fire-scarred head on the rampage and charges out to be confronted with one of his most difficult dilemmas ever.
